NHPI US Report (Cover-small)

A Community of Contrasts:
Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders
in the United States, 2014

This report was conceptualized nearly a decade ago after Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles released the first A Community of Contrasts report featuring disaggregated ethnic data on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) from the U.S. Census Bureau. While our communities share common ground, we recognized the importance of producing a report focused on NHPI communities.

A Community of Contrasts:
Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders
in California, 2014

This report is a useful tool for navigating a broad array of pressing issues facing the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) community in California while encouraging meaningful partnerships to address those issues.  This report disaggregates NHPI groups to the extent possible and provides a user-friendly reference. It also features both state-level and localized data that highlights a few areas where sizable populations of Native Hawaiians, Samoans, Tongans, Chamorro, Fijians, and Marshallese reside.

Policy Platform Blueprint cover (small)

Policy Platform Blueprint for Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in the United States

This policy platform blueprint is offered as a starting point in a process that will express a common set of beliefs, positions, and recommendations that will represent the foundation of a national advocacy effort for Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) in the U.S. It is meant to be a living document that changes and adapts to our community’s needs while reinforcing the principles shared by our respective NHPI cultures.
